So, I was supposed to start the US trip today, but some unrelated paperwork that needed to be ready was delayed a bit and I’ll probably leave tomorrow, Friday, instead. Not a big deal anyway, it just gives me a bit more time checking I thought about everything, and also to see how the bike is handling the added luggage weight all around. I also checked things on the checklist for this trip.
Based on feedback from fellow bikers on advrider.com and nc700-forum.com, along with some comments from the customs officers, I also decided to shorten the trip a bit and avoid the northern and mountain parts of the USA, unfortunately possibly leaving out Yellowstone park and – if really necessary – some of the 4 states (Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico) if ice or snow is present.
So new plan is to go South toward California, then, as soon as conditions allow, east toward Tennessee, then south to Florida, and back west through Louisiana, Texas, and California, possibly hopping to colorado region if it makes sense – unless I visit that part early on.
Also started worrying about the possibility the US Customs may want to deny my entry, based on the fact I quit my job recently. I guess showing them proofs that I still have a mortgage and some investments in Canada, along with having my Canadian citizenship pending, should be enough to convince them I will leave the States after my trip, but who knows… Sometimes it’s all depending on the mood of the day of someone…
