Left Reno around 8:30am, happy to see my bike was still on the parking lot of the hotel. Just before leaving the room, I had taken a few pictures from the foggy/dirty window.
The ride started pretty well, with a gorgeous view on Washoe Lake.
A little after that I was passing the hell’s gate… And I had no idea what was waiting on the other side…
… but it in fact manifested in the beginning like some clouds following me…
… but I didn’t pay much attention to it: it was just clouds… And I came to this magnificent view of Monolake. That’s at this time the devil manifested for the first time, and just blew my bike down while I was taking pictures. If was stupid of me to not have used the centerstand and/or stop the bike facing the wind, but hey, one learns from one’s mistakes 😉
Result was mostly scratches on the side case and a crack on my handguard, but I’m glad I invested in them, otherwise I’d have had to solve a broke brake lever probably…
It looked like the rain I had started to feel was running behind me, but luckily it ended stopped by the mountains around me when I finally reached Big Pine and set up for a cheap campground with a very friendly host.
At that camp, I had a friendly conversation with a retired biologist who was there with his wife in a camper. He recommended me to visit the White Mountain and the Ancient Pine Forest on my way to Death Valley, that had trees more than 5000 years old… a few ones that had survived all these years… Took good note of that and put that in my planning for Friday morning.
Great Ride Report! Keep them coming, and ride safe!
Thanks, Pascal! Glad you like them 🙂
