We left Creel after breakfast on Sunday morning and rode for about four hours before we got to Guachochi. The day was beautiful – sunny without being too hot – so the ride was pleasant. The place itself reminded us quite a bit of Yécora upon initial impression, but somehow a bit better. I guess because Guachochi is a bigger town and has more people so we saw more life.
We stayed at the Hotel El Aliviane, which cost us 280 pesos (~20 CAD). The room was clean, had a TV and WiFi, and we were able to park the bike right outside the door to our room so we were happy. The bathroom situation was a bit strange in that the toilet was in the shower stall (why do we not take pictures of things like this?!) so after you take a shower, the toilet is completely wet so using the toilet afterwards is not so much fun (if using the toilet can qualify as “fun”).

After checking in, we had a quick lunch at the hotel’s restaurant and then returned to our room to shower and catch up on some work. At around 7:00 PM, we decided to take a break and get some dinner at the same restaurant.

Unfortunately for us, the restaurant closed at 5:00 PM on Sundays so we decided to step out onto the street and see if we can find something. It seemed that everything else in the neighbourhood was closed too.

We saw some light emanating from a little stall standing to the side of the hotel and were pleased to discover that we could get some food here. The friendly cook made us some simple, but delicious burgers that we enjoyed before heading back to our room.

How was the road from Creel to batopilas and then to guachochi? We’re thinking of doing that shortly in our van

It’s quite a while back – we rode there in August of 2017, so things may have changed since about the state of the road. We also didn’t go to Batopilas, but directly from Creel to Guachochi. I honestly don’t remember the details so much, but I think it was fine on a loaded motorcycle, so probably no worries on a van – definitely not a dirt road at that time.
On a side note, if you’re not yet in Creel, I strongly advise to reserve some time for the drive between Yecora and Creel, because slightly after Yecora, the landscape becomes seriously amazing, with magnificant views like in a fairy tale. Unfortunately hard to stop on a motorcycle, because the roads had either tiny sides or dirt/slightly inclined ones that we couldn’t take the risk stopping at with the bike – we also didn’t want to stop right on the road, because there were a lot of turns and limited visibility. But that’s been an amazing section of that trip.
