After breakfast on our first morning, we stayed in our room to do some work. We have been doing that quite a lot recently, since we both had quit our full-time salaried jobs before hitting the road and would like to dip into our savings as little as possible. That’s why we have come up with an idea to finance our trip and share the benefit with you guys (instead of asking for hand-outs through crowdfunding). Our idea is POSTCARDS! We love them, we collect them, and we’re sure we’re not alone in this. Curious? We have added a new section to the blog so check it out and spread the word!
Our bellies started to rumble at around lunch time so we decided to get some food and explore the city while out. There was a demonstration going on in the center of the city, close to a whole street of restaurants, when we got there. While it was peaceful and there seemed to be six cops to every person on the street, we decided to go further and away from the crowd in case anything went awry. We wandered for a little while before we came upon a restaurant that was far enough from the crowd.
After some delicious fish for lunch, and hot chocolate (for me) and coffee (for Phil) to finish off, we explored the city on foot. Morelia was different from all the cities we have been to in Mexico in that it almost appeared medieval with its stone buildings and brick-paved roads. There is a university in the heart of the city so there was a lot of young blood and energy. Bars and restaurants were busy, even during the week nights! It is not a small city and definitely worth a visit for those looking to go off the beaten path.
We went back to our room after exploring and had salmon salads for dinner at one of the restaurants in the same Jardín de las Rosas area as the night before.
