For those of you who have a good command of the English language and are planning to cross Mexico, heading towards Central/South America, we just thought it would be worthwhile to mention that The English School is looking for volunteers to help their students practice conversational English.
In our case, it was a three-week commitment for only two hours a day – 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Thursday. The students we conversed with during our time ranged from 12 years of age to adults, and topics were wide and varied. If you run short of things to talk about on your own, the school provides articles to read and discuss.
What’s in it for you, you ask? Well, for starters, you get to give back to society and make a positive impact on the lives of others. What? More? Okay, you also get hosting and food during your time here. While Salamanca is a nice city in itself with delicious ice cream and the best Mexican street food right across the road from the school, there are several great cities close to it like Guanajuato, Morelia, and San Miguel de Allende if you crave a change of scenery on your days off.
The experience has been wonderful for us; we have met so many incredible people and made some great friends during our time here. If you’re interested in having a wonderful experience too, ask to speak to Ivan at the school.
