On Saturday morning, we left Palenque and rode about five hours through another bumpy road to Ciudad del Carmen. Despite the less-than-ideal road conditions, the ride was more pleasant than the one that got us to Palenque. We did get stopped at a checkpoint with the federal police; however, the encounter was a painless one as they were more interested in the bike and our trip than the possibility of us transporting drugs and firearms. Or perhaps we just look like a couple of harmless nerds… oh, wait… 😐
We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott that cost us 645 pesos (~43.91 CAD) per night and we were there for two nights. Ciudad del Carmen is not a big city so there wasn’t anything of interest that we wanted to do or see so we spent our entire time working. The hotel had a nice rooftop patio where we could work so the view from our “office” was quite enjoyable. After 3.5 months in this country, we finally traded the glorious and cool mountains of Mexico for the hot and humid beaches. It is the dawn of a new era.
