Our last few days in Antigua Guatemala mostly involved staying in, working, and binge-watching Netflix. We did go out one day to the viewpoint of the city followed by a nice pizza lunch and another day to meet up with Bob and Doug – two motorcycle travellers with whom Phil had connected with and arranged to have coffee when they passed through Guatemala. Coffees transitioned to beers and a pleasant evening.
One of our neighbours had recommended a local mechanic, Motorpsycho, for getting the bike fixed since it still looked like the work of Dr. Frankenstein from the time it fell on the way to San Agustín Lanquín. The guys at the shop did a terrific job in restoring the bike back to its glory and at a fraction of what the cost would have been in Canada.
On our last Friday, February 16, we decided to do a day trip to Panajachel and see Lake Atitlán while there. It was a 2.5-hour ride to our destination on a warm and sunny day, but the town was nice and the lake was beautiful. After a terrible cup of coffee and some tea of the same calibre, we headed back while there was still daylight.
Tim and Marisa arrived at our apartment on Saturday as we had plans to cross the border into El Salvador together on Monday. We enjoyed staying in for the weekend and went out for dinner and a stroll through the city center for our last night in Antigua Guatemala. On the way to the restaurant where we had dinner, we caught a bit of what appeared to be a procession for Holy Week.
