Our second week in Managua was not a lot more eventful than the previous one as we spent most of our time staying out of the 35°C+ heat that just did not seem to want to take a break. We did manage to go out for a movie and saw Red Sparrow on Wednesday, but the rest of the days were spent in our air-conditioned apartment.
On Tuesday, March 6, we braved the weather and did a day trip to León, a city that is just under a 2-hour ride from Managua. It is the second-largest one in Nicaragua; however, we did not find it all that exciting as the city seemed to consist mostly of just a few churches and some streets of small shops. We did manage to reconnect with Tim and Marisa, who were staying there, before we headed back to Managua.
We braved the heat again on Sunday and made an attempt to visit the Laguna de Apoyeque, which is a lake that happens to be in the crater of a volcano. After circling around the area on dirt road and looking for access to the lake while sweating pounds of lard thanks to the unforgiving weather, we threw in the towel. Perhaps it was because it was a Sunday, but all the roads had closed gates secured with padlocks. Tim and Marisa had managed to visit the lake so you can check their blog, Notier’s Frontiers.
We know that slow days don’t make for great stories, but fear not, as we have picked up the pace and will have more to share in the following posts 🙂
